From Egyptian tombs to Renaissance oil paintings, Still Life compositions have played a large role in world history. Profound symbolism is found in what may seem like simple depictions of fruit, vegetables and inanimate objects. From cultural, religious, and moral metaphors to analogies of reproduction, fertility, and even death, these compositions are rich with meaning. A Still Life as a work of art can be evocative, expressive, or purposefully somber. The photographs that make up Deconstructed Still Life were created during the shoot for our AW16 film, Singer Sargent, and taken by photographer Caylon Hackwith. In his own words, the project "...explores the deconstruction of sensuality and the body as inspired by Dutch still lives."

You are invited to view the photographs up close in the shop; they will be displayed for the next few weeks. We hope you find inspiration and enjoyment from them.

I hate having to choose, so all three! Coffee strong and black, any kind of green tea, and an Old Fashioned.

Eclectic. I'll wear anything ... it just depends on my mood.

Any daily rituals?
Hot lemon water with rosemary and peppermint oil; it's a refreshing and healthy tonic. And I'll eat at least one fresh fruit every day.

One piece of advice you’ve taken to heart:
"Nobody thinks about me as much as me." What I take from this is to not be self-conscious or worry about inconsequential things I might say, do, or wear because chances are that other people haven't even gave it a second thought (we're our own biggest critic). On the flip side of that, if you DO want people to take notice than you really need to make waves.

Out of the 8-10 items you chose which is your favorite?
Among these items, the Kaarem Sediment Long Sleeve Onesie is my favorite. I still remember the first time I picked it up off the rack, and then realizing it wasn't a dress but actually has legs! And the shape of the neckline is so beautiful. It looks like something an important person would wear in a futuristic world and I would wear it today.

The Uptown Theater — I love going to the movies and this little theater holds lots of nice memories for me. Also, Loring Park in the summer with a blanket and a book.

Black coffee in the morning from Spyhouse on Nicollet. In the evening anything with Aquavit at Tattersall Distillery.

In a few words, explain your style:
Scandinavian modern meets Japanese grandmother.

Any daily rituals?
Naps. I'd take one everyday if I could. I have two cats and we all love to curl up together for an hour or so in the afternoon.

One piece of advice you’ve taken to heart:
From the indomitable Special Agent Cooper of Twin Peaks, "Everyday, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it, don't wait for it, just let it happen."
