Herb Lester Associates makes travel guides the old-fashioned way. They write and research in-house or with the assistance of trusted locals, reading old guide books and welcoming the opportunity to revive old friendships in far-flung locales in the quest for on-the-ground knowledge. The maps are litho-printed in England on sustainably sourced paper. This is a slower and more costly process than digital printing, but the difference in quality makes it worthwhile.
